Multibar Damascus Steel Bowie Knife
This knife was made using a handful of scrap cutoffs from my multi-bar serpent core Viking sword project. Two bars of twist Damascus were forged and welded together, with the twist running in opposite directions, along with a bar of solid 1804 high-carbon steel for the cutting edge. I took some inspiration from historical Viking and Anglo-Saxon seax knives, as well as American Bowie knives. The S guard is made of blackened mild steel. The knife was assembled using a hidden tang method with stabilized wildebeest bone for the handle. I purposely built this knife using only knife makers epoxy to hold the handle on in order to do some testing and see how well the knife would hold up. After chopping through multiple 2×4 and 2×6 boards, I was pleasantly surprised to see the handle was still completely solid. However, it is inarguable that this method of construction is objectively weaker than others, and while perfectly suitable for small and light-duty blades, it should not be relied upon for large or heavy-duty working blades. A detailed video on the construction of this knife can be found on the OHF YouTube channel.
