Serpent Core Viking Sword

This was by far my most complicated and ambitious project to date. The blade is 32 inches long and features steel fittings and a handle made of 5000 year old Irish bog Oak. The blade itself is constructed from 7 different bars of steel, all of which required painstaking forge welding to produce a functional, beautiful, and razor-sharp blade. The serpent core of the sword is made from cable Damascus, the inner core from 15N20 high-carbon nickel steel, the outer core from low-layer twisted Damascus, and the edges are forged from a solid bar of 1084 high-carbon steel. This sword was made as part of the YouTube Viking Challenge, a collaboration with many other great makers. A detailed video on the construction of this sword can be found on the Old Hickory Forge YouTube channel.
